The old wall was done. Blocks shifting, the face starting to lean out toward the patio - it's the kind of thing homeowners put off until they can't anymore. That's exactly where this one was at when we got the call.
We tore out the failing wall completely and rebuilt it using VERSA-LOK Prairie Tan block. VERSA-LOK is a solid choice for this type of application - the blocks are heavy-duty, they lock together without mortar, and the Prairie Tan color gives it a warm, natural look that holds up without looking worn after a season or two.
What we ended up with is a wall that actually does its job. It's holding back the raised garden bed cleanly, the cap course runs level all the way across, and the stepped corner detail on the left side adds a nice finished touch where the grade changes. The patio edge is clean and defined now instead of something you have to step around carefully.
Good retaining walls aren't just about looks - though this one looks sharp. They're about keeping soil where it belongs, protecting your hardscape investment, and not having to deal with the same problem again in three years. That's what we build toward every time.
If your wall is leaning, cracking, or starting to pull away from where it should be, it's worth getting it looked at before it gets worse. These things don't fix themselves, and a wall that's already moving is doing damage you might not see yet.
